Giving Back
At Juniper we are strongly supported by resident’s, families and the communities in which we live and work. In the same way we at Juniper embrace a culture of service and voluntarism; giving back is one of the things we do best.
Volunteering
A volunteer remembers to do the things that make other people happy, takes the loneliness out of the day by talking to them, and is concerned when others are unconcerned. To be of service as a volunteer truly allows us to nurture the spirit of life in each individual we touch.
Members of our communities have been involved in numerous volunteer and service projects over the years. Most notably among these are the Alzheimer's Association memory walk, Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P.), the Make a Wish and Twilight Wish foundations and sponsorships of local youth sports teams. We hold support groups within our communities for caregivers and family members in need. We provide internships for high school volunteers and service high school community service sites. Our residents volunteer to tutor and read to children in local schools. They knit baby blankets, bake cookies and package them for children in homeless shelters and many other small and large things on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. In November 2009 Juniper Communities held its first nationwide united services effort. We sponsor an annual food drive it all 15 of our communities to benefit local food banks in each of our wider communities.
Annually, our home office team identifies a local group needing volunteer support. Each year we designate at least one day where the office is closed and the entire team gathers to work for others in our community. Our efforts have been wide ranging-- from finishing homes for Habitat for Humanity to packing gifts for the holidays for children in need to sorting clothing and food at New Jersey's largest food bank. We donate time and energy but magically we receive so much in renewed vigor and the happiness that comes from giving back and being a part of the fabric of our community!
Support Groups
Support Groups provide the necessary guidance, direction, education and support to our families, residents and associates to nurture spirits and ensure wellness and quality of life. Our support groups are provided in conjunction with our Partners in Caring signature program and in most cases are provided by professionals from the various agencies with whom we have preferred provider relationships. You can learn more about these important services by contacting the Community Relations Director at a Juniper Village near you.
Food Drive
Each November, each of local Juniper Village sponsors a month-long food drive. Our residents participate in the drive not only with donations but also in sorting and packaging the food as well as selecting the agency to which the food will be donated. Together we work to provide upwards of 1000 pounds of food in each community at the holiday season to those in need. After all what better time is there to share our bounty. |
